India’s 1st book using QR defining monuments of Lucknow
Foreword
Lucknow is a city of grand architectural gems and its historic importance cannot be emphasized enough. Populated since ancient times on the banks of the river Gomti, the city is famous for its practice of the last integrated culture of the world. Many historic monuments and old buildings attract tourists from different parts of the world to Lucknow. Many carry home wonderful memories of the city, but some return saddened, disillusioned and disappointed at the neglect of so much of such rich historical heritage.
Lucknow was once famous as a city of gardens with Qaiser Bagh, Laal Bagh, Hazrat Bagh, Sikander Bagh, Charbagh, Nazar Bagh, Sunder Bagh, Alam Bagh, Badshah Bagh, Dillkusha Bagh and many more. Today Lucknow is fast turning into a jungle of cement and glass and straying away from its glorious history. Some monuments are protected but most of them await attention. Today the architectural heritage of the city is an invitation to different types of menace and unsocial elements that deface the original beauty of historic monuments often for mere amusement.
There are hundred odd monuments in Lucknow that are an important symbol of the unity in diversity way of life practiced here for centuries. These monuments of immense cultural heritage need to be protected as the cultural resources of this area are being eroded at an alarming rate. There is an urgent need for a mass movement that will do its bit and also demand from authorities to conserve and take care of the architectural jewels for the benefit of future generations. The conservation of historical monuments here is a shared responsibility. Especially the participation of the public is as necessary as the intervention of the government. To inspire the public to be involved in taking care of their city, an awareness campaign is launched starting with this book. It is hoped that information on the bygone days of the city will inspire contemporary citizens to help clean up the city’s present state of affairs. Let us together join the campaign to protect and to cherish our collective heritage.
