The original name ‘Azizuddin Khalid’ is somewhere lost in the legendary television character ‘Bandhuji’ which is so popular & strong that people still remember him in that mood. It was a humourous serial on doordarshan in 1970s which lasted for 23 episodes and proved to be a landmark in the television history not only of Lucknow but for the entire nation. It was written by Gangadhar Gadgil & directed by Kumud Nagar and beautifully performed by Bandhuji & Nanu Bhai ( Mr Shahid Jafri ). Former being a humble person who is most of the time cheated by his clever friend Nanu !
He played the character of Pathan in Bibi Natiyo Wali, which is also famous for Mirzaji ( Mr Vishwa Nath Mishra ) & Nani ( Pramod Bala ). Mr Khalid is one of the most famous television artist who could be well remembered in other serials like Neem Ka Paed, Saazish, Mukhda Kia Dekhe Darpan, Choro Ko Aane Do, etc.
He told us that since childhood drama was played by him in ‘Khwaja Brother Dramatic Society’ which was the group formed by his family members for the entertainment ! By profession, he worked in a government department & acting is his hobby only. He is also fond of anchoring and to be specific for the ghazal shows. Ms Aziz Bano Wafa his sister is a famous poetess & Mr Ayaz, a very popular RJ is the proud son of Bandhuji !
He is a great stage artist as well as expert in performing street plays. Two of his plays, Interview & Ilaje-e Dard-e Dil are very famous humourous plays. He was recently also seen in the play ‘Mein Urdu Hoon’. He is a well known artist on Radio also. He worked in feature films & telefilms like, Yeh Ishq Nahi, Seher, etc. He is the esteemed member of many drama associations like Sanket, Darpan, IPTA, Natraj Rangshala, etc.
